Collective Worship

At Ward Jackson Church of England Primary School, Collective Worship is a central part of our daily life and helps to nurture the spiritual and moral development of every member of our school community. Our worship is collective, not corporate – meaning that while we gather together as a school family to reflect, celebrate and explore values, there is no expectation that all will participate in acts of Christian faith. Instead, Collective Worship provides a shared space for spiritual growth, where pupils and adults of all faiths and worldviews are invited, not compelled, to engage in ways that are authentic and comfortable for them.

In line with the Church of England’s vision for education and national guidance, our approach to Collective Worship is inclusive, invitational and inspiring. It is inclusive because it recognises and values the diversity of belief within our community, ensuring that everyone feels respected and spiritually safe. It is invitational because it offers, rather than imposes, opportunities for prayer, reflection and encounter with the Christian faith. It is inspiring because it encourages pupils to think deeply, act with compassion and develop a sense of hope and purpose that prepares them for life in all its fullness.

Through our Collective Worship, we seek to strengthen the sense of belonging that defines Ward Jackson, while reflecting our Christian foundation and the inclusive ethos of the Church of England. Whether drawing on Bible stories, moral dilemmas, cultural celebrations or pupil-led reflections, our worship celebrates our shared humanity and invites everyone—whatever their faith or background—to explore their own spirituality in a safe, respectful and uplifting environment.
