Our Academy Council

From 1st April 2023,  our school became part of the Durham and Newcastle Diocesan Learning Trust, which is a multi-academy trust (MAT).  The Board of Directors of the Trust has identified that each school in the Trust will have a dedicated committee to oversee the governance arrangements of the school on their behalf.  This committee is called the Academy Council and its members – Academy Councillors - work closely with the Head Teacher and the school’s leaders in order to achieve the best possible outcomes for all pupils.

Chair of Academy Council - David Craig

"I joined the governors of Ward Jackson school in 2018, having had previous education experience in Further Education and Sixth Form. A Chartered Accountant with a career spent in Commercial and NHS finance systems and controls, I have lived in Hartlepool since 1980 and am Treasurer of Stranton Church."

Safeguarding Link Councillor - Reverend John Bell

"I am privileged to be one of the Academy Councillors for Ward Jackson. Born just outside of Durham, I left the area when I went to University and then spent 20 years working as an Engineer in the Aerospace Industry, in the south of England. After training to become a priest, I moved back to the North East in 2022 when I was appointed Priest in Charge of All Saints, Stranton."

Parent Academy Councillor - Alan Wright

"Recently appointed as a Parent Governor, I have a son in year one at Ward Jackson. I have over 30 years experience in the IT industry, working in both private and public sectors. I have lived in Hartlepool since 1989 and endeavour to support both our school and local community."

Foundation Councillor - Joan Nixon

"I have been a governor since 2019.I have lived in Hartlepool since 1971.I taught in secondary schools for 42 years and was Head of Careers, Sixth Form and Psychology. I hope to use my knowledge and experience to help reduce stress and work load for teachers and pupils."
